Wonder Woman Pilot Storyboards Show Us What Might Have Been

We’re all now resigned to the idea that Wonder Woman is not going to hit the air. But sometimes, some glimpses of what might have been seem to come through.

A concept artist for the Wonder Woman pilot, Cesar Lemus, posted some of his storyboard drawings for the project onto his personal blog, and the rest of the blogosphere has seemed to take notice. In some of the art, we see some of what might have been… including a Paradise Island sequence which is not in the [almost] finished pilot but is reminiscent of the Wonder Woman most of us know and love.

Enjoy the storyboards:

  1. This is the Wonder Woman pilot I would have loved to have seen. Fans want more or the origin story and these early storyboards show that. I think if Kelley had used the origin story, Wonder Woman would have had at least a fighting chance of making it to air.

These storyboards are lovely, it is a shame that they weren’t held to more closely in the pilot. It has been my experience, though, that the concept art is almost always cooler than the final product, even in movies and tv shows that I enjoy. A prime example would be the storyboards of Jean Grey as Phoenix from X3, which outshine anything the fx team actually executed with her character onscreen. I think in Wonder Woman’s case, though, a limp script and several reworkings of the plot were the real culprits rather than the fx team ignoring their own storyboard artists. Clearly the images of Themyscira were a victim of editing as I have heard they were not included in the pilot, which would seem to have been a very bad move indeed since the mere storyboards of them have alot of fans posting on various web outlets how they would have loved to see those scenes, and I am no exception. So heads up to whoever gets Wonder Woman onto tv or in a movie, even if you don’t do the origin story and contest and so forth, fans still want to see Paradise Island and the Amazons. (Plus, as near as I can figure, all of western civilization wants Lynda Carter to play Hippolyta.) It would also be nice if some of the other Amazons on the island were included for accuracy when a Wondy project actually gets done. I would like to see Artemis, Phillipus, Donna, maybe even Fury and Nubia, all characters that can make Themyscira, and therefore Diana, more detailed, conflicted, and interesting. Thanks for the post, great pics, hopefully we will get to see Paradise Island reinterpreted in live action in our lifetimes, that we haven’t makes the images even more wistfully enchanting.

  3. I AM STILL HOPPING THAT THE PRODUCERE WILL DISCOVER A WAY TO RELEASE THE PILOT IN DVD FORMAT. IT WOULD BE INTERESTED TO SEE THEIR VERSION OF WONDER WOMAN. WONDER WOMAN TV SERIES SOUND TOO GOOD TO REMAIN UNKNOWN. GOOD LUCK TO THE FUTURE. YHOUR TRULY CHARLES DAVID HASKELL
