Adrianne Palicki Talks About The Experience Of Playing Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot will be Wonder Woman in the new sequel to Man of Steel, but the last time anyone saw a Wonder Woman in live action, and the reason this website was created in the first place, was actress Adrianne Palicki.

Palicki played Diana Prince/Wonder Woman/Diana Themiscyra (don’t ask) in the ill-fated Wonder Woman pilot for David E. Kelley in 2011 that did not go beyond the pilot stage. Despite the pilot not hitting the air and getting a critical drubbing from fans who were able to see it, Palicki is upbeat about the experience.

Adrianne Palicki: “Politics” Killed Wonder Woman 2011

In a new interview with Crave Online, Adrianne Palicki talked briefly about the 2011 Wonder Woman pilot. It’s one of the first times she’s really spoken about it, and she says she was “proud” of how it turned out.

“I was so grateful to get to play Wonder Woman,” she said. “That was a childhood dream of mine and I’m proud of the outcome. I do wish it would have gone to series but everything happens for a reason. Looking at it as a positive, I got to work with some amazing actors, [an] amazing writer and I got to wear the outfit. It was not comfortable but it was totally worth it.”

Wonder Woman not getting picked up was “shocking” for the actress. “There were obviously politics involved,” she says. “It had gotten picked up as far as I knew so when we got that call it was incredibly shocking. We were set up to go to Jimmy Kimmel and everything else so it was a real shock. It was hard to take at first.”

Politics, or the pilot just not being very good? Realistically, Adrianne…

In An Upfronts Recap, Vulture Has Interesting Speculation About Wonder Woman

Maybe it’s not between Wonder Woman and Harry’s Law after all.

In a run-down of what the TV networks may do when they announce their Fall 2011 schedules next year, Vulture’s Josef Adalian had this interesting speculation about something that may happen with Wonder Woman:

“We’d also like to go on record with our (potentially silly) theory about Wonder Woman: Since David E. Kelley is likely to get a pickup for Harry’s Law, what if NBC were to green-light Kelley’s superwoman and announce that a new show-runner was coming onboard Woman so DEK could focus on Harry’s?”

You can read the entire Vulture column here. NBC will be announcing their new schedule in one week, on Monday, May 16.

NBC President Robert Greenblatt Reveals That We Will See Wonder Woman In Shorts

In a short new interview at TVLine, NBC president Robert Greenblatt reveals that the new TV Wonder Woman (Adrianne Palicki) will have multiple costumes.

Beware of spoilers!

There was an initial outcry about the long pants – you know, skintight pants as opposed to those little shorts [worn by Lynda Carter in the original TV series],” Greenblatt told TVLine. “But the shorts were always planned. They are actually used in the final confrontation when she beats Veronica Cale (played by Elizabeth Hurley).”

The alternative costume seen on Hollywood Blvd. was apparently always part of the plan, he said. “We haven’t made any changes from what was planned,” he assured. “But it’s always good to hear the feedback. I’d rather have people really passionately engaged in conversation, even if they hate something, than be kind of bored.”

Greenblatt is aware of some criticism the leaked pilot script got online, but he still sounds confident. “There’s always critiques of everything,” he said. “If we listen to all of that, we would probably never be able to get the job done. David’s a great writer… and I actually think he’ll bring an intelligence to [the show] that other … writers might not. I think it’s going to be interesting to see it cut together.” As for the finished product, what are the chances of Wonder Woman landing on our TV screens this Fall?

“I’ve been doing this long enough to know that nothing is a safe bet,” he told TVLine. “Even with the best of intentions and the best people, you just don’t know until you see it finished – and we’re a few weeks away from that. But it’s been getting a lot of attention. A lot.”

NBC will unveil their Fall 2011 lineup in May.

The New Wonder Woman Has Her First TV Guide Cover

The April 11 issue of TV Guide Magazine, featuring Smallville’s Tom Welling and Erica Durance, has an added bonus for fans of the new Wonder Woman – a photo of Adrianne Palicki as WW in the sidebar!

This cover is only available on newsstands; subscription issues do not have the sidebar.

There is a half-page photo of Adrianne in action as Wonder Woman (really a photo from the recent Hollywood filming) and it mentions that “in addition to fighting villains, like Elizabeth Hurley as Veronica Cale, she’ll search for a way back to Paradise Island.”

To the left you can see Wonder Woman’s greatest TV Guide cover of the 70’s, at the height of the popularity of Lynda Carter’s WW series.
