David E. Kelley Admits Wonder Woman Pilot Mistakes In New Interview

At the recent Television Critics Association press tour, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Lesley Goldberg caught up with David E. Kelley, the writer/executive producer behind the 2011 Wonder Woman TV pilot for NBC, where he admitted that the pilot, as it was, was not perfect.

“We made mistakes with ours,” he said. “My only regret is we were never given a chance to correct them. We had a lot that was right about it and a great cast. In time, we could have fixed what we had done wrong, we just didn’t get that chance.”

He is, however, happy that The CW is giving Wonder Woman another go, possibly, with Amazon. “I’m sad we didn’t get to do it but I do believe it can work for The CW. They’re smart to try it,” he said to the Hollywod Reporter. He also would be willing to try it again, if The CW take does not work. “I would. It’s different for me, it’s a genre that I have a lot to learn about,” he said. “At this point in your life, everybody should do something that they’re scared of; I was a little scared of it, I remain a little scared of it and be happy to wade into the fear again.”

Adrianne Palicki: “Politics” Killed Wonder Woman 2011

In a new interview with Crave Online, Adrianne Palicki talked briefly about the 2011 Wonder Woman pilot. It’s one of the first times she’s really spoken about it, and she says she was “proud” of how it turned out.

“I was so grateful to get to play Wonder Woman,” she said. “That was a childhood dream of mine and I’m proud of the outcome. I do wish it would have gone to series but everything happens for a reason. Looking at it as a positive, I got to work with some amazing actors, [an] amazing writer and I got to wear the outfit. It was not comfortable but it was totally worth it.”

Wonder Woman not getting picked up was “shocking” for the actress. “There were obviously politics involved,” she says. “It had gotten picked up as far as I knew so when we got that call it was incredibly shocking. We were set up to go to Jimmy Kimmel and everything else so it was a real shock. It was hard to take at first.”

Politics, or the pilot just not being very good? Realistically, Adrianne…

Lynda Carter Talks About The Failed Wonder Woman Pilot

In an interview with Mike Pingel at Examiner.com, legendary Wonder Woman Lynda Carter talked briefly about the pilot that never aired, but can possibly be found in places around the Internet if you care to look (but be warned, it’s not very good!)

“I didn’t see it, so I don’t have any opinion on it.  I’m just sorry it didn’t go.  It would have been nice to have Wonder Woman on TV again,” she said.

Hopefully someday we’ll see Wonder Woman done right for TV. Perhaps success for Arrow will convince the networks to give Wonder Woman another go – possibly with some more relatable writing and a better costume next time?

Wonder Woman Pilot Storyboards Show Us What Might Have Been

We’re all now resigned to the idea that Wonder Woman is not going to hit the air. But sometimes, some glimpses of what might have been seem to come through.

A concept artist for the Wonder Woman pilot, Cesar Lemus, posted some of his storyboard drawings for the project onto his personal blog, and the rest of the blogosphere has seemed to take notice. In some of the art, we see some of what might have been… including a Paradise Island sequence which is not in the [almost] finished pilot but is reminiscent of the Wonder Woman most of us know and love.
